About ME
I am a twenty-something and I am with the love of my life. We have been married since March 2008 and married life has been amazing so far. It’s definitely true what they say, food is the way to a man’s heart. One of his first memories of me is when I brought food to him at his frat house, that scored me some major brownie points! From that point on he was hooked, his stomach told him it found the food it wanted to eat from now on ๐ and the rest is history!
I have a passion for food and cooking. I love to entertain, research new recipes, read cookbooks, research the latest and greatest thing in the culinary world and I love to talk about food to anyone who is interested. Being creative in the kitchen is so much fun for me; it’s a way for me to relax and it’s also so much fun to see what new creations I can come up with. I love cooking but when I cook for others it’s such an amazing experience. It’s awesome to see the joy on their face when they sink their teeth into something I’ve made.
I began food blogging in June 2008. I first got inspired about food blogging when I visited the “What’s Cooking” board on The Nest. There are so many people on there that have amazing food blogs and they inspired me to start one of my own. Another reason I decided to start a blog is because I frequently have people asking me about recipes I’ve made and since I’m sometimes asked in places where I don’t have th recipes readily available a blogg seemed to be a pretty practical answer. I have gone from having a few friends reading my blog to now having people from all over. It’s amazing!
Also, having to write out the recipes makes me pay a little more attention to measurements. There are quite a few times where I’ll throw a little of this and a little of that together to make whatever “creation” I’m making at the time and when it’s all done I don’t have a formal recipe. I’m more aware now of how much of this and that I throw in there…which keeps my sis-in-law happy with me when she asks me for recipes!
My Cooking/Kitchen Experience
So here’s a little about me and my experience in the kitchen. I am not a formal chef by any means and don’t even claim to be! I have grown up in the kitchen and shadowed some amazing and talented cooks; my mom, dad MaMaw and Grandma…it doesn’t get much better than that! I learned to cook by helping my MaMaw, Grandma and parents do whatever I could when they were in the kitchen. I have fond memories being in the kitchen and helping the whip up an afternoon snack or helping them make something for a gathering. My grandparents and parents were always int he kitchen making something whether it was a meal or sweets so I got well rounded cooking experience.
The kitchen is definitely the heart of our home. We spend about 75% of our time there. Spencer supports me in all my efforts and gives me honest feedback on my dishes, which I love. How can you get better and improve if you don’t know your faults? We have a wonderful time hanging out and making meals and goodies. It’s fun having someone in there to help and to share in the cooking process.
I get inspiration from many places. First and foremost I’m a southern girl through and through so a lot of my inspiration comes from my roots. I also love reading cookbooks, websites and other blogs to get inspired and get ideas for my next meal; but I also have the inspiration the homestyle cooking I grew up eating. I love the homestyle food but I also have a fascination with gourmet style food; it’s just so amazing to me to see what the different chefs do and how they do it. I love watching their techniques, flavor styles and all that fun stuff and I get inspired and try gourmet style dish from time to time.
On my blog you will find a mixture and variety of foods; several different styles and food types. I am trying to branch out and try new types and styles of food; so there will definitely be some “learning experience” type post…just laugh with me on the ones that don’t turn out so wonderful! Cooking, like many other things, is a learning experience that comes with a lot of trial and error.
